Cory swatches launched - I want one
A celebration to honor a hero and saint:
The watch is a collector’s item and is almost sold out.
There are only 801 sets of Cory Aquino tribute watches in the world. They cost P8,100 for each set. [ABS-CBN News]
The numbers 8 and 1 stand for August 1, the day when Cory died of colon cancer. Original Swatch watches usually cost around P3,000 to P7,000.
The Cory Swatch set includes 2 watches, one of which is tagged with a serial number, encased in a picture book called “A Woman Dressed in Sunshine” written by Makati City Rep. Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin, Cory Aquino’s press secretary and speechwriter.
At the back of the book is a stylized copy of a letter written by one of the country’s richest businessmen, Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala, the day after the former president died.
The two watches vary in design. One has a lemon yellow watch face with a steel watch dial, while the other has a black watch face printed with a yellow sun.
Both, however, have yellow and black straps printed with a shower of yellow ribbons and the faces of Ninoy and Cory Aquino.
The watch straps also bear the words “Ipagpapatuloy Ko!” in bold black letters.

To anonymous who said Cory's administration was "wala lang"...
May I remind you that Cory inherited a deeply wounded country not just in economics but in EVERYTHING else. When she became president, she has to pull up a country not just from the ground but from a very deep pit. A lesser person could barely extend a hand towards that deep pit. True, there were problems but the problems that surfaced could happen to any country with lesser evil backgrounds. Had Pres. Cory been corrupt, we would have been in deeper sh*t.
May I remind you also that when she came to power everything about human rights in this country was in chaos. What she did in her administration is what YOU enjoyed today.
The failures and successes of every Filipino does not lie in who will be the next president. Try to examine your life: what brought you success... and failure? It's not the president of our country. We are successful because we did something right.
And the Filipino people needs a president to inspire them to do something right. The only one who can do that is someone who has been living honestly and simply since he/she was born.

Vilma Santos is perfect choice for Cory biopic
Vilma has confirmed that she is being considered for the role of Cory Aquino in her biopic and she's so elated, excited and proud to do it. Everything is still in the planning stage and already, people are raving for it. Vilma states that, if ever, this will be the most important and challenging role of her life.
"Definitely malaking malaking karangalan po, not only flattered - but honored - na nababanggit ang pangalan ko na gustong gumanap sa buhay ni Madame president Cory Aquino. I'm honored but ito po ang isang klase ng pagganap na hindi basta-basta," Santos said.
If Santos is given the part, she said it will be her biggest challenge yet.
"This is not an ordinary film. Ang taong gagampanan ko dito ay nakita mo kung paano minahal, ni-respeto. Kung gaano kalaki ang kredibilidd at kung paano siya binigyan ng honor. So, hindi po madaling trabaho ito,” she said.

President Cory, role model for all ages
The Philippines has a new role model today and it's none other than our most beloved President Cory Aquino, whose life, love and faith continue to inspire and strengthen us. She is indeed the role model for all ages. She was an excellent student, an obedient daughter, a loving and faithful wife, a perfect mother, an honest leader, a trusted friend, an artist and a practicing Catholic Christian. If ever we can vote for her for the last time, it will a vote to make her a hero and a saint.

Star Cinema to do a biopic of Cory Aquino
Malou Santos of Star Cinema is now forming a creative team for the biopic of our most beloved hero and saint, President Cory Aquino. It will be for international release and Kris Aquino has immediately agreed to the project. Love story is going to be the focus of the film.
In the movie, Malou wants the movie to depict the following:
How Cory was courted by Ninoy.
How she coped when her husband was incarcerated for seven years.
How Cory took care of her family as a single mom when they were on exile in the US for three years in the 1980s.
How she’s like as a daughter, a sister, and a friend.
How religious she is.
ABS-CBN and Star Cinema is said to be eyeing Piolo Pascual to play the role of the young Ninoy and Vilma Santos as the adult Cory. Excellent choices for such a big project but hopefully, there will be no conflicts for these two in accepting the roles when the offer becomes official.

Willie Revillame, ABS-CBN received hearing notice from MTCRB and KBP
Willie continues to be on a hot seat for his reaction during the showing of President Cory Aquino's cortege on the screen while his show was going on. But the Aquino family has already forgiven him and did not want to make a big deal anymore. Willie, for the most part, was actually totally misunderstood because of his tactless and arrogant demeanor. If only Willie made his requests in private and conferred with the management instead of blurting it all out in front of the viewing public, maybe he won't be in this kind of trouble today.
Willie Revillame currently on leave from Wowowee
Willie Revillame is once again in the headlines of various publications and internet sites regarding his statement during a live Wowowee telecast where he asked the live feed of Cory Aquino’s cortege be removed from the screen. Many have seen this as brash and it sprouted already numerous online petitions to have the host suspended or remove from his post on the number one noon time show in the country.
The host was not present last Saturday and yesterday and this automatically made people ask what happened to Willie. According to Bong Osorio, Head of ABS-CBN’s Corporate Communications, Willie himself texted him and said that he is on indefinite leave effective last Saturday. Mariel Rodriguez, one of Willie’s co-hosts on Wowowee, also mentioned on the show yesterday that Willie is currently resting.
On Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and Kapisanan ng Broadcasters sa Pilipinas’s (KBP) claim that Willie violated Presidential Decree of 1986 Section 3C, saying they can take action on any program on TV that will not reflect good values and show anything injurious to the State, the Republic of the Philippines and its people. ABS-CBN has already received MTRCB and KBP’s notice on the matter and will have only five days to respond to this. MTRCB Chairwoman Consoliza Laguardia and KBP Vice Chairman Jun Nicadao says that the station will receive fair treatment in the hearing of this issue.
On the other hand, Senator Nonoy Aquino in an interview said that he would rather not make a big deal out of the issue. “I’ll take what he said at face value at wala siyang insultong nais iparating sa aming pamilya.” [ABS-CBN]

Willie Revillame’s new and more serious trouble
Willie’s mission in life apparently, was to make people happy. He said it in his show all the time. But people are no longer laughing these days because they got very angry at Willie for saying what he said that were found to be rude and disrespectful towards Cory Aquino’s very emotional cortege being flashed on the screen while the show was going on and people were having fun. Obviously, it’s hard to do a job making people happy when people are actually grieving in the background. Actually, I think, everything about the show that day seemed to be wrong and inappropriate but could have been avoided if only Willie and ABS-CBN management planned carefully and communicated the appearances of Cory’s funeral procession on the show where there will be laughing and dancing. ABS-CBN should have been more pro-active and sensitive enough, and each people involved should speak up and help clear Willie’s name because I don’t think it was all his fault although he played the major role. I think, the management should also take responsibility for the actions done and words said that made everyone angry at Willie.

During my lonely hours of solitary confinement in Fort Magsaysay, Laur, Nueva Ecija last March and April with nothing else to do but pray and day-dream, with only my fond memories to keep me company, I planned a weekend barrio fiesta for you in Tarlac for your 18th birthday. I fooled myself into believing that my ordeal would end with the fiscal year. I planned to invite all your classmates and friends and their families for the weekends.
The schedule called for an early departure by bus from Manila and the first stop will be Concepcion, where lunch will be served by the pool. And after lunch, you were to visit the Santa Rita Elementary School to distribute cookies and ice cream to the children of that public school, where you were first enrolled.
I guess sheer nostalgia prompted me to include Santa Rita. We were only three then: Mommie, you and I. Those were the days of happy memories little responsibilities, tremendous freedom, a great future ahead and capped by a fulfillment of love. You are the first fruit of our union, the first proof of our love and the first seal of our affections.
From Concepcion we were to proceed to Luisita for the barrio fiesta. I intended to invite a friend who could roast an entire cow succulently. Swimming, pelota, dancing and eating would have been the order of the day.
Sunday morning was reserved for a trip around the Hacienda and the mill and maybe golf for some of the parents and later a picnic-lunch on Uncle Tony’s Island. Return to Manila after lunch. I am afraid this will have to remain as one of the many dreams I had in Laur.
Our future has suddenly become uncertain and our fate unknown. I am even now beginning to doubt whether I’ll ever be able to return to you and the family. Hence, I would like to ask you these special favors.
Love your mother, whose love for you, you will never be able to match. She is not the greatest mother in the world, she is your sincerest friend.
Take care of your younger sisters and brother and lavish them with the love and care I would like to continue giving them but am unable to do so.
Help Noy-noy along and pray hard that he will grow to be a real, responsible man who in later years will protect you all.
You are the model for your three younger sisters. Your responsibility is therefore great. Please endeavor to live up to our highest expectations. Be more tolerant to Pinky, more accessible to Viel, our little genius-princess, and more charitable to Krissy, our baby doll, and make up for my neglect.

Where was President Arroyo during the week the Philippines was mourning?

THE economic downturn hasn't persuaded everyone to pinch pennies. Philippines President Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was at Le Cirque the other night with a large entourage enjoying the good life, even though the former comptroller of her country's armed serv ices, Carlos Garcia, was found guilty earlier this year of per jury and two of his sons were arrested in the US on bulk cash-smuggling charges. Maca pagal-Arroyo ordered several bottles of very expensive wine, pushing the dinner tab up to $20,000.

The Aquino children's selfless love
I admire the Aquino children for they understood, accepted and supported their parent’s active political and public service life, a far cry from the luxury they could have enjoyed being one from a rich family. They could have just lived a full life meant only for the rich. But no, they let their parents be a parent for the whole nation. They shared their parents to us. I think, the Aquino family is the most simple and humble family I know that actually belonged to the elite group. Kris is sort of an exception in a way because she is in showbiz, but Ninoy and Cory lived a very simple life that their children automatically followed.
If there will be a movie about Cory (I’m very sure there will be one in the near future) I hope it will be about their love story. I am amazed by what I've learned about them and I’m learning more and more each day. I left the country in 1979 and at that time, there was no TFC. We relied on some Filipino newspapers and the telephone to get an update. During the People’s Power era, we kept a close watch of what was going on in the Philippines but limited. When Cory became the president, I only knew little about her and her administration. From what I’ve read and heard now, I begun to know her more in a more personal level, enough to make me and my husband literally cry during the week of her funeral. She was a remarkable woman and I wish we had her a little longer. I would like to know more about her and I wish and pray that there will be a full movie about her life, love and family.
Priest thanks Aquino children for sacrifices
MANILA - A priest and close friend of the Aquino family on Wednesday expressed gratitude to the children of the late Benigno and Corazon Aquino for sharing their parents’ sacrifice for the country’s democracy.
“A word of gratitude to her (Cory) children, who shared so much of her sacrifice. They almost never had a mother and father for themselves,” Father Catalino Arevalo said in his homily at the funeral Mass for the late former president at the Manila Cathedral on Wednesday morning.
Arevalo said the five children, -- Ballsy, Pinky Viel, Kris and Noynoy -- carry the blood and spirit of Ninoy and Tita Cory, as the two leaders are fondly called, respectively, not only by close friends, but all Filipinos.
“The sacrifices demanded of them also. This morning Ballsy, Pinky, Noynoy, Kris, Viel, we say thank you from all our hearts. We offer thanks from the hearts of the people, forever in your death.”
The priest said Mrs. Aquino’s “priority lineup” had always been God and country, people and then family.
After Ninoy’s assassination in 1983, Mrs. Aquino willingly took his place and continued the late senator’s fight against the Marcos dictatorship.
The fight ended with a people’s revolt, forcing the exile of the Marcos family in 1986.

Aquino family refused a state funeral for Cory
Kris Aquino said her family refused the Arroyo administration's offer of a state funeral because the government had attempted to recall two soldiers assigned to guard her mother when she was still alive. Former Philippine presidents traditionally have the right to retain at least two guards.
Aquino's only son, Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, said the family would not be too enthusiastic to see Arroyo at the funeral but that she could pay her respects.

The passing of former President, Cory Aquino
ABS-CBN reports:
MANILA - Two weeks ago, the family of former President Cory Aquino approached designer Paul Cabral for an important task: to prepare an attire for Mrs. Aquino's funeral.
Cabral then prepared a beaded suit in a "happy yellow" shade, according to Boy Abunda, a friend of the Aquino family.
By Saturday morning, Mrs. Aquino's daughters donned the yellow suit on her when they had a private time with her at the Heritage Park in Taguig City Saturday morning. Mrs. Aquino breathed her last at 3.18 a.m. at the Makati Medical Center.
At the Heritage, the siblings also prepared Mrs. Aquino's remains for public viewing. By 3 p.m., the convoy left for La Salle Greenhills gymnasium in San Juan City. It was the start of a chance for Filipinos to personally pay their last respects to Asia's first woman president.
Serenity
People and cars started to flock to the Catholic school a few minutes after Mrs. Aquino's only son, Senator Benigno Aquino III, told a press conference at almost noon on Saturday that they had chosen La Salle as the venue for wake. He said it could accommodate a big crowd.
By around 4 p.m., the convoy with Mrs. Aquino's remains arrived in La Salle and was met by the waiting groups of military, navy, and police. A marching band played in the background as the coffin, wrapped in a Philippine flag to symbolize her national importance, was eased out of the funeral car. As the uniformed officers started the formal arrival honors, rains poured, muting the gun salute. By the time the uniformed men made another synchronized step towards the gym, the rains dramatically ceased.
The national anthem was played as hundreds of soldiers gave Mrs. Aquino a salute. As a former president, Mrs. Aquino also concurrently held the highest position in the armed forces.
The uniformed officers slowly brought the coffin inside the gym. Yellow confetti rained.
Not long after, La Salle's gates opened to usher in Mrs. Aquino' supporters who had been queuing under the rain for hours. Inside the gym, they had few seconds of chance to view Mrs. Aquino's visibly thinner and more frail frame. She is clutching a gold and pink rosary that went well against her "happy yellow" suit made by designer Cabral. The rosary, according to Abunda, was given by Fr. Sonny Ramirez, a close friend fo Mrs. Aquino.
She exuded serenity even on her deathbed, according to some accounts.
Iron will
Family members, friends and former foes, politicians, businessmen, entertainment and religious personalities trickled into the gym before the scheduled 8 p.m. mass on Saturday--the first in a series scheduled in La Salle.
Officiating the mass were Bishops Gabriel Reyes and Soc Villegas who are both close to the late Cardinal Jaime Sin. The latter was instrumental in propelling Mrs. Aquino to power in 1986. At the time, Sin made a radio annoucement invoking the laity to go to the streets to support Mrs. Aquino.
In his sermon, Reyes compared Cory to Joan of Arc. He said they are both simple and unassuming individuals who were thrust into a Herculean task. He said "God knew she (Cory) will not abuse her power and will not want to be president for life."
He added that the yellow ribbons, now widespread all over the country, are likely "expression of longings for public servants like Cory who are not greedy."
Former Senate President Jovito Salonga, who used to be at odds with Mrs. Aquino over the issue of the American bases in the Philipines, agreed. He described
Aquino as an "exemplary" and "brave" leader.
Also in the audience was former President Fidel V. Ramos, who succeeded Mrs. Aquino in 1992. Asked to describe the leader who endorsed his candidacy then, he said, "She is a woman with a steel core. She has courage and an iron will."
Landmarks
Other mourners also sought to express their grief by flocking to landmarks traditionally associated with her.
One of them is the corner of Ayala and Paseo de Roxas avenues at the heart of the Makati City business district. This area had been the venue of many rallies that Cory used to join whenever she wanted to send a message to Filipinos. This was also where Filipinos first showered yellow confetti made of shredded yellow phonebook pages to show support when Mrs. Aquino was running for president in 1986.
Members of civil society, business community, and former Cabinet secretaries of Mrs. Aquino made their way towards the monument for Mrs. Aquino's slain husband at the road intersection. They lit candles and proceeded to an inter-faith service at the nearby Ayala Tower One building.
A multi-media presentation of her public and private lives was shown, and short messages to celebrate Mrs. Aquino's life and contributions to mankind were made. Hymns of farewell, including a unity song made popular during the 1986 people power, brought many to tears.
Another landmark is the Edsa Shrine, which was the venue of two people power revolts that toppled administrations. The first one benefited Mrs. Aquino, while the second one President Gloria Arroyo, who, incidentally, is the country's second woman leader.
A chapel is located at the foot of the shrine, which stands over the intersection of Edsa and Ortigas Avenues, the site of the people power movements. Since Mrs. Aquino was confined at the hospital last week due to her worsening colon cancer, supporters have been holding a 40-hour vigil since Thursday last week. The vigil was initially intended for the speedy recovery of Mrs. Aquino.
After they held their 4 a.m. vigil and mass for Mrs. Aquino on Saturday morning, they learned that Mrs. Aquino already passed away. Those who had been part of the prayer group could just express deep loss.
Masses
In true keeping of Mrs. Aquino's Catholic faith, supporters all over the country attended masses or followed traditions to commemorate her memory.
In Antipolo City where Mrs. Aquino frequented to hear mass, a regular mass on Saturday turned into a requiem. It was the same in the Twin Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, which is located near Mrs. Aquino's residence in Times St. in Quezon City. Priests have similar accounts of Mrs. Aquino: she was simple, sat on the same seat, and shunned special attention toward her.
Parishoners, moved by Mrs. Aquino's quiet presence through the years, even started laying flowers on her favorite seat in the church.
Her townmates in Tarlac City were also moved upon hearing the news about her death. They flocked to the town plaza, eventually hearing mass in a church there. Yellow ribbons were tied on trees, car antennas, gates, among others.
Masses offered for the repose of Mrs. Aquino's soul were even held in Ilocos Region, which is considered "Marcos country," referring to Mrs. Aquino's nemesis in previous decades.
Aside from religious rites, supporters also offered flowers, mass cards, and lit candles. A memorabilia board was set up at the Edsa Shrine to accommodate these.
At Mrs. Aquino's Times St. residence, a steady stream of supporters--including former officials and ordinary people--have been leaving flowers and cards. When the rains poured, those passing by just honked their cars to express support.
The cards were addressed to "Tita (aunt) Cory," indicating warm regards toward the late democracy icon.

Former President Cory Aquino in 'serious' condition
MANILA - Friends and supporters of former President Corazon Aquino on Wednesday said that the democracy icon's current condition is "serious" after she was admitted to the Makati Medical Center last week.
At the start of the nine-day healing mass for Mrs. Aquino at the Greenbelt Chapel in Makati City, no one admitted the actual condition of the former leader, but former senator Franklin Drilon, a close supporter, admitted she is undergoing "something serious."
