New York Post: Charice newly crowned pop princess

MANILA, Philippines - International singer Charice has been dubbed a "newly crowned pop princess" by the New York Post.

Charice's song "Pyramid" was cited in New York Post's PopWrap's fave five article for March 17. (http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/popwrap/popwrap_fave_five_dHI00FY5PWSGTY83...) It identified Charice as a "new little chick...who's mountain-and-valley vocals (that means range, kids) are the only reason you will need to fall in love with her sound."

The article also featured four other songs including Psapp's "Mister Ant," Lady GaGa's "Telephone: an Electrolightz remix," Gin Wigmore's "Don't Stop" and Matisse's "Better Than Her." It added that this week's fave five "will have your bottom uncontrollably shimmying out of your kilt."

In an e-mail sent to abs-cbnNEWS.com, Charice said that she's happy that her talent is being recognized not only by her fellow Filipinos but by a lot of Americans as well.

"I really can't believe po na kasama ko sa iisang topic si Lady Gaga. Super Fan po niya ako. To be crowned as the New Pop Princess it's really a honor for me. Nanginig ako nung nabasa ko. Feeling ko, ang laking responsibilidad kasi po dating Pop Princess si Britney Spears po. Nagpapasalamat po ako hindi lang po sa mga Pinoy na sumusuporta sa akin kundi lahat po ng supporters sa iba't ibang bansa. Mapa-Amerikano man po o kahit ano po, salamat po sa lahat," Charice said.

Charice said she is happy that her single "Pyramid" has been downloaded over a million times despite tough competition from other pop artists.

"Super happy po ako. New York Post is really BIG. And really happy na ako yung napili nila na i-crown as New Pop Princess, although there's a lot of teen artists po talaga dito sa Amerika na magaling po talagang pop singers. I wanna thank them po sa pagpili nila sa akin. And thanks po sa lahat ng nagview ng Pyramid ko, it's finally over 1M views! I can't wait po na makita nila yung official music video. Though wala pa pong exact date. But I'm sure ilalabas na po ito soon. Nakita ko na po kanina and it's really inspirational. I hope magustuhan po nila."

Currently, Charice is in the United States to work on her first international album "Charice: A Star Is Born." The album will be launched on May 11, or a day after her 18th birthday.

Reports said she might launch her album on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Charice in Italy, bravo!

Lyrics in English:
I don't know where to find you
I don't know how to reach you
I hear your voice in the wind
I feel you under my skin
Within my heart and my soul
I wait for you
Adagio
All of these nights without you
All of my dreams surround you
I see and I touch your face
I fall into your embrace
When the time is right I know
You'll be in my arms
Adagio
I close my eyes and I find a way
No need for me to pray
I've walked so far
I've fought so hard
Nothing more to explain
I know all that remains
Is a piano that plays
If you know where to find me
If you know how to reach me
Before this light fades away
Before I run out of faith
Be the only man to say
That you'll hear my heart
That you'll give your life
Forever you'll stay
Don't let this light fade away
Don't let me run out of faith
Be the only man to say
That you believe, make me believe
You won't let go
Adagio

Oprah not taking the credit for Charice's success

We all know how Charice started her successful U.S. career and there is no denying that Oprah played a very important role in that success. But when Oprah was asked about how she'd helped the most talented girl in the world, Oprah humbly replied:

“I would have to say that my staff is responsible for that because I said to them, ‘Look, I’m not in the record business.’ And they said, ‘This girl has something.’ From the beginning, I brought Charice into a room and sat her down with some people whom I thought could help her. They were asking me, did I want to manage her? I don’t. I don’t want to make any money from her. I just want her to be as successful as she can.”

Charice eyes career in Hollywood - why not

MANILA – After starring in 20th Century Fox's live-action animation film “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," conquering Hollywood is most likely next for international singing sensation Charice.

In the “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” Charice plays herself, the biggest rival of the Chipmunks in a singing competition. Like other Hollywood stars, Charice auditioned just to get the role.

"Kumanta ako ng mga Beyonce songs at ginaya ko ang boses ng chipmunks. Tuwang tuwa sila. After a week noong umuwi ako ng Pilipinas, tinawagan nila ako at nakuha ko ang role. Gusto nila ang role ko daw po ay bilang Charice,” she said in an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com.

The film is yet to be screened in the United States, but the management of Warner Bros. is already discussing the possibility of her appearing in more movies in the future.

"Tinanong ako ng Warner kung ready na daw akong pumasok sa movie. After ng the 'Alvin and the Chipmunks,' doon ako na-convince na pwede na," Charice, a contract artist of Warner Bros. Records, said.

There are a lot of movie offers already, the YouTube sensation admitted. What she wants though is to appear first in a horror film.

"Hopefully, ay mabigyan nila ako [ng horror film project]. Sabi ko sa kanila ang gusto ko ay iyong parang 'Orphan' movie ang dating. Gusto ko ako ang pumapatay, ayoko nang ako ang pinapatay," she said.

Charice also wants to make a special appearance in a popular American television series, “CSI.”

She said: "Pwede din nila akong i-guesting sa ‘CSI.’ Like iyong mawawala ako at hahanapin nila ako.”

When "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" holds its premiere showing, meantime, Charice said she will attend the big event along with its American cast.

As of the moment though, Charice is focusing on her music career. She flew back to the US recently to complete her first international album.[ABS-CBN]
