The Obama team bought time on CBS, NBC and Fox for about $1 million per network. The spot airs at 8 p.m. EDT. It is also scheduled to run on Univision, BET, MSNBC and TV One. Flush with cash from his record-shattering fundraising, Obama uses that advantage by buying up media time in ways that McCain cannot.

And negative is the tone for the latest Obama ad, a 30-second spot aimed at key states that uses McCain's own words against him and mocks running mate Sarah Palin. Three quotes, one from 2005 and two from 2007, play off McCain's acknowledgment that he knows less about economic matters than other issues. In the last quote, McCain says he might have to rely on his vice president for expertise — and then the spot cuts to a winking Palin. [BEN FELLER]

The 'double standards' the media is playing

Saturday, the New York Times did a takeout on Cindy McCain that delved back into her problem with prescription pills. Yet when Hillary’s campaign manager, Mark Penn, brought up Obama’s cocaine use on “Hardball,” he was savaged by folks for whom the Times is the gold standard.

The people apparently had a “right to know” of Bush’s old DUI arrest a week before the 2000 election, but no right to know about how and when Obama was engaged in the criminal use of cocaine.

The media cannot get enough of the “Saturday Night Live” impersonations of Palin as a bubblehead. News shows pick up the Tina Fey clips and run them and run them to the merriment of all.

Can one imagine “Saturday Night Live” doing weekly send-ups of Michelle Obama and her “I’ve never been proud” of my country, this “just downright mean” America, using a black comedienne to mimic and mock her voice and accent?

“Saturday Night Live” would be facing hate crime charges.

How do we know? When the New Yorker ran a cartoon of Michelle in an Angela-Davis afro with an AK-47 slung over her shoulder, New Yorker editors had to go on national television to swear they were not mocking Michelle, but the conservatives who have so caricatured Michelle and The Messiah.

If Obama wins, he will get all the honor he wanted, but will that save Americat?

Most people are very confused today. I even hear people say, if Obama wins, he will be honored in the history as the first Black American president. That’s fine and dandy but that's not what this election is all about in these hard times, so people should not focus on that at all. We are having crisis and we should be focusing more on who is more equipped to lead the country. First, Obama needs to assure us that he will be able to protect this country from terrorists and terrorisms; to make America a safe country to live in once again. But how can he when he was proven to have an association with some of them. America today is plagued with all kind of crisis and we cannot and should not entrust these crisis to someone who have not been there and have not done that. It's like, if you are critical and needs an open heart surgery or a heart transplant done to survive, won't you ask for a veteran surgeon or a surgeon fresh from college. Think about it, America, and please do the country a favor, weigh the pros and cons first before making your decision. Your choice can make or break this country. Don’t even think of Bush or the past, just think of the future. Do not just listen to what the media is saying, do your own math and research. Also, it’s not right and not fair to punish McCain for the mistakes or neglect the Bush administration were being accused for.

McCain on attacking Obama, he (McCain) was just telling us the truth

ABC7 conducted their own Fact Check and said that Obama was not telling the truth about Acorn; much more with Ayers. Obama, many times, he would change his sentence, I guess like depending on where the win blows. But will Americans believe a smooth talker more than a doer. Obama can talk nice, yes, but it's McCain who can do the job.

The Final Debate: McCain won and nailed Obama big time

The final debate was the best and the best of McCain. After hearing tonight's debate, I have totally forgotten that he lost in the first two. The most popular remark tonight:

Sen. John McCain played offense against Sen. Barack Obama during much of the final presidential debate as he challenged his rival on his policies, judgment and character.

Obama said that he is the candidate who can bring "fundamental change" to the country and continued to try to link McCain to President Bush.

In one of the more forceful moments of the debate, McCain turned to Obama and said, "I am not President Bush."

"If you want to run against President Bush, you should have run four years ago. I'm going to give a new direction to this economy and this country," the Arizona senator said. Watch McCain say he's no Bush

McCain aides said they had been working on him to be more explicit in drawing a distinction between himself and Bush.

It is not right to punish McCain for the mistakes of the Bush Administration and McCain's remark hit the spot and I guess we will never hear that issue from Obama ever again.

The poll said that Obama won the final debate. Of course, because the debate watchers in the poll were 40% Democrats and 30% Republicans.

The contrast between McCain-Obama, Palin-Biden

America faces a financial crisis which has thrown many millions of citizens into a great loss of confidence. McCain announces that he is going to Washington, suspending his campaign, and will be working to find a way to restore the faith of these frightened Americans who fear that another Great Depression is right around the corner; Obama pauses. Which will help him win more votes, going ahead with the debate sans McCain, or looking statesmanlike and joining McCain? Forget the long term consequences of the bailout (trust me, Obama never thought of those at all) or the wrangling over details of the bailout (Obama, in a pinch, can always vote "Present.") What does hesitancy say about Obama, the man? In time of national disaster, Barack Obama looks at us as voting blocs and not as human beings. Why? He will do anything to win.

The contrast between McCain and Obama is stark. The man who stayed in the horrors of Hanoi as a matter of honor faces the man who has never met an honor that he understood. The man who would rather lose an election than have his country lose a war faces the man who would watch amused as his countrymen descend into economic terror provided that his calculated neglect won him a few national percentage points.

The contrast between the vice presidential choices of McCain and Obama is just as stark. The woman who took on her own political party and who gave birth to a son with Down syndrome, because she believed abortion was wrong, faces a man who plagiarized in law school (so he could get his degree), who copied the speeches of Neil Kinnock (so he could win votes), and who seems to have never met an honorable sacrifice worth embracing.

The lust for power is not change. That lust is as old as history. It does not carry the seeds of hope within it. However packaged, the personal ambition to win at any cost is as ancient as lying, as old fashioned as theft, as commonplace as ward heelers. Electing men who figuratively will throw anyone under the bus to win, including, literally, their grandmother and their pastor, can never bring anything good. Such people do not just believe the grand malediction, "The end justifies the means," but they believe that they, personally, are that end.

Men who will do anything to win will end up doing nothing good at all. In college, it seems, Obama heard and spoke the word "power" as normal people would speak or hear the words "soul" or "honor" or "God." Power, alone, counts to him. John MacCain running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, said in her speech at last week's Republican National Convention that while Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, "have been going on lately about how they're always, quote, 'fighting for you,' let us face the matter squarely: There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you… in places where winning means survival and defeat means death."
